This was a big one. We put down 16 yards of double-shredded hardwood mulch across the entire property on Halstead Bay - covering everything from the lakeside beds and boulder retaining areas to the front driveway beds and the pergola patio surrounds. A job this size takes real coordination, and the crew knocked it out clean.
Double-shredded hardwood is our go-to for jobs like this. The finer texture lets it knit together better than standard mulch, which means it holds moisture longer, breaks down more slowly, and does a much better job of suppressing weeds. On a lakefront property with this many planting beds and this much ground to cover, that matters. Less watering, fewer weeds, and the beds stay looking sharp a lot longer.
What we like about a property like this is the variety. You've got natural boulder borders running along the lakeside, flagstone step paths tucked against the house, rounded stepping stones through the side beds, and a big open pergola area in the back. Each zone needed the mulch laid and finished consistently - not just dumped and raked. Getting a uniform depth throughout is what separates a clean finish from a sloppy one.
Beyond the look, mulch does real work. It regulates soil temperature, reduces erosion on sloped ground near the water, and feeds the soil as it breaks down over time. For a property this size with this many established plantings and young trees, fresh mulch is one of the highest-value things you can do for the long-term health of the landscape. It's not just cosmetic - it's maintenance that pays off season after season.
The whole property came together exactly how it should. Fresh mulch throughout, clean edges where the beds meet the driveway and pathways, and every boulder and planting zone looking intentional. This is the kind of work our crew takes pride in - big scope, clean execution, happy client.
